Two friends are taking on a 120-mile challenge to support suicide prevention.

Liam Kavanagh from Andover and Matt Wall from Oldham are walking the full length of the Jurassic Coast while carrying 15kg rucksacks, which they say represent "the invisible weight people carry with them through mental health struggles."

The trek is part of a larger 5,475-mile mission to raise funds for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity focused on suicide prevention.

Mr Kavanagh said: "This walk is part of our much bigger mission – to complete 5,475 miles while carrying 15kg.

"The Jurassic Coast is one of the UK’s most stunning yet challenging coastal routes, so it felt like the perfect place to take on our next chapter.

"Carrying it is our way of sparking conversations and keeping their memory present."

The 15kg also symbolises the 15 people who die by suicide each day in England and Wales.

The pair met during a group walk organised by Mind Over Matter, an organisation offering safe spaces for people to walk and talk across England and Wales.

Mr Kavanagh said: "Over time, we became close friends – and now, through this challenge, we’ve become more like brothers."

Their journey begins in Exmouth and ends at Shell Bay Beach in Studland, Dorset, where the South Coastal Path finishes.

Though neither has a personal connection to suicide, they have walked with men who have lost loved ones, deepening their commitment to the cause.

Liam said: "CALM does incredible work in suicide prevention and mental health support, so it felt right to dedicate this journey to them."

So far, they have raised £2,700 and hope to reach £5,475, matching the total miles of their wider challenge.

Supporters can donate through their GoFundMe page or by searching "Carrying 15kgs for CALM."

The pair are also planning future fundraising treks, including The Longmynd 50 in October, and walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast, North Coast of Scotland, and the National Three Peaks.

Liam said: "By walking with purpose, sharing updates, and explaining the meaning behind the 15kgs, we hope to spark conversations that make people feel less alone – and perhaps encourage someone to reach out for help."

Having taken previous challenges before, Liam added that "This is not our first rodeo".
