A possessive husband, he murdered Claire Cordner, 33, four months after their wedding day by pouring half a litre of two-stroke mixture over her while she was sleeping and then used a lighter to ignite it in the early hours of October 13, 2006.

She died in Salisbury Hospital six days later as a result of her injuries and overwhelming septic shock following several operations.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of murdering Mrs Cordner, a legal secretary, in 2007 at Winchester Crown Court.

The former soldier was 32 years old at the time he was sentenced.
