A songwriter has won international recognition for his latest album.

Alan Garmonsway, a recording artist from Ludgershall, took home the Best International Album of the Year Gold award at the International Singer Songwriters Association (ISSA) Awards in Atlanta, Georgia for his album And on with the Show.

Alan said: "Last year my previous album Stories in Time achieved the Silver award so to have my new album this year recognised as top of an impressive list of indie artists from around the world is absolutely amazing.

"Especially so as I played all the instruments, did vocals, mixed and produced it all myself, with the help of some additional vocals from my wife, Sue."

The ISSA is a global network of more than 30,000 recording artists and music professionals.

Nominees for the awards are selected through a process that combines fan voting—this year totalling more than 50,000 votes—and evaluation by industry professionals and past winners.

Alan's album was a deeply personal project, created in collaboration with his late friend and bandmate Drew Thomas, who wrote the lyrics.

He said: "The songs were created a while back with my good friend and bandmate Drew Thomas writing the lyrics and myself the music, melodies and arrangements.

"Drew sadly passed away before we could get down to recording the album in earnest, so I decided to take on the whole project myself.

"Singing his parts was a challenging and sometimes emotional experience, but it all came together in the end."

The award also comes with the opportunity for Alan to serve as a judge in next year’s competition.

In a further honour, ISSA has been officially recognised as a registered media company by the Recording Academy, enabling it to submit entries on behalf of Gold award winners directly to the GRAMMYs.

Alan has achieved 15 top 10 placements in the World Songwriting Awards over the past three years, and his music has been played on stations including BBC Introducing and Castledown FM.

All songs on And on with the Show tell a story, reflecting Drew's background as an actor and theatre producer.

The album is available on major streaming platforms Spotify, Amazon Music, and Bandcamp.
