Many older people may be losing out on crucial financial aid because the application process is too complicated.
Age Concern Hampshire is tackling the issue through its Information Service, which offers older people across Hampshire personalised assistance with form-filling, financial entitlement checks, and help applying for schemes such as Blue Badges.
The charity's team of trained volunteers supports applications for Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Pension Credit, and Blue Badges, either by phone or during home visits.

Yvonne Hiscock, Information Services senior co-ordinator at Age Concern Hampshire, said: "Filling in forms can be overwhelming and many older people do not claim what they are entitled to.
"Our volunteers provide tailored assistance, ensuring individuals receive the guidance most relevant to their needs."
In 2023, around 1.8 million people in Great Britain received Attendance Allowance, but an estimated 140,000 eligible individuals did not claim it.
As of March 2024, 2.93 million people in England were entitled to a Blue Badge without further assessment, yet only 2.84 million valid badges were held.
In addition to benefits support, Age Concern Hampshire’s Information Service also signposts individuals to other services, including home services, digital inclusion, foot care and specialist support.
