A JEEP driver who was caught 'speeding' at 36mph in a 30mph limit near Andover has been fined.

Rupert Saunders, 60, of Chalkhill Cottages, Little Somborne, admitted speeding AT Basingstoke Magistrates Court after he was caught driving a Jeep at 36mph in a 30mph limit on the B3049 Winton Hill on July 4, 2025.

Saunders was fined £113, ordered to pay £130 costs and a £45 surcharge, with the total due by March 12, 2026.

His driving record was endorsed with three penalty points, the usual minimum penalty for speeding.

Saunders avoided a driving ban after the court heard about his reliance on his car to attend his medical appointments and to care for his elderly mother, as public transport from his village is limited to a once‑a‑day bus service.
