A 93-year-old has become an unexpected social media star for an Andover mobility company.

Alistair, from Andover, has gone viral after featuring in a heart-warming campaign by the much-loved DF Mobility that captured the hearts of thousands.

The short film, which has drawn more than 100,000 views online, tells the story of how DF Mobility, helped Alistair regain his independence and confidence through one of their mobility scooters.

Dean Grant, social media and marketing manager for DF Mobility and owner of Only Words Agency, said the idea behind the video was to help people rediscover themselves.

He said: "We wanted to do something that would really kind of empower someone of a mature age.

"In the video, at first, we painted a picture that he's been told he can't drive anymore; he was an avid driver, and he used to love motorbikes when he was younger. He's always liked Harley-Davidsons."

The video then shows Alistair meeting a motorcycle club in Andover, who ride alongside him as he enjoys his new scooter, styled like his beloved Harley Davidson.

Mr Grant said: "It really changed how the family saw the situation because it turned a negative into a real positive."

The project was a collaboration between DF Mobility, Only Words Creative, and members of the Andover community, with Alistair's granddaughter, Corinne, narrating over the video.

Alistair was described as a local legend with his Harley Davidson by the team at DF Mobility, saying that he always comes by for a chat.

DF Mobility has received a wave of positive feedback, new enquiries, and requests for similar Harley-inspired scooters thanks to the video’s success.

Mr Grant said: "Where we've targeted the video to be kind of within 30 kilometres of the shop, we've had a few calls and a few emails from people who weren't aware of us.

"So we can go out to people as well, see if people are bedbound, they've had an accident, or, it's just, you know, the way things are, we can always go out to visit them and bring our products to them, which is something we kind of pride ourselves on."

Danny Frendo, manager at DF Mobility with 24 years of experience in the mobility industry, said: "I like the fact that if you can't get to us, we can get to you, we do free home assessments, and we're trusting a company that just put your best interests at heart, and we'll get you the right product."

The company emphasises in-person service over online sales to ensure every customer receives the right advice.

Their new website went live in December, offering more information about their services and products: dfmobility.co.uk/

The company sees the campaign as more than just marketing; it's about changing perceptions of mobility and showing the opportunities that remain, regardless of age or circumstance.
