A man has been charged with a drugs supply offence after officers conducted a proactive vehicle stop in Andover.

Jonathan Townsend, 39, of Stevens Green, was arrested following an early morning stop by officers at around 5am on March 17 on Churchill Way.

Police searched the Vauxhall Insignia he was driving under the Misuse of Drugs Act and discovered seven wraps of suspected Class A drugs inside the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "At around 5am on 17 March, officers stopped a Vauxhall Insignia on Churchill Way and searched the vehicle under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

"Seven wraps of suspected Class A drugs were located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested, and a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs were seized from his home address following a further search."

Townsend was taken into custody, and a subsequent search of his home led to the seizure of a larger quantity of suspected Class A drugs.

He has been charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He is due to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Wednesday March 18.

The arrest was the result of a proactive vehicle stop carried out by police.
