An Andover GP will be taking on the London Marathon later this month
Dr Hollie Docherty, who recently became a GP Partner at Shepherds Spring Surgery in Andover, is running in support of the Stars Appeal, the official charity for Salisbury District Hospital.
Having trained as a junior doctor in Salisbury and welcomed her second son at the hospital, Dr Docherty said she wanted to "give something back" to the place that has played such an important role in her life and career.
"As a practice we often refer patients to Salisbury Hospital, and I know first-hand how much of a difference the Stars Appeal makes,” she said. “The charity helps to provide essential services within the hospital — from lifesaving equipment and state-of-the-art technology to free patient WiFi."

Dr Docherty was “lucky enough” to secure a charity place with the Stars Appeal and has set herself a fundraising target of £2,000.
She said: "I would love some help from the Andover community to reach it."
Having worked at Shepherds Spring Surgery for just over two years, Dr Docherty says she "absolutely loves" her job and caring for local patients. For the past seven years she has mainly focused on CrossFit, training with CrossFit Blockhouse in Andover, but admits she is relatively new to running.
She said: "I only started running in September and haven’t really done much running at all before that.
"The training has been long and arduous, but I’ve really thrown myself into it and tried to build up gradually."
In preparation for the marathon, she has already completed several events, including the Vitality 10k in London last September and the Andover Half Marathon in October. She has also taken on the Dorney Lake and Surrey half marathons and is set to run the Salisbury 10-mile race next weekend as part of her final preparations.
Dr Docherty added: "It’s been a real challenge, but knowing that every mile is helping to support patients and staff at Salisbury Hospital keeps me going."
