A DRINK DRIVER caught at nearly three times the legal limit has been banned from the roads.

Andrei-Cosmin Patrulescu, 37, of Lords Way, Andover, was caught driving on the A303 at nearly three times the drink-drive limit.

Patrulescu pleaded guilty on April 23 to driving his Renault on the A303 at Sutton Scotney on March 27 after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion in his breath was found to be 103 micrograms per 100 millilitres.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres, meaning Patrulescu was nearly three times over the limit.

Magistrates fined him £1,900 and disqualified him from driving for 25 months, though the ban can be reduced by 25 weeks if he completes an approved drink-drive rehabilitation course by September 29, 2027.

He was ordered to pay a surcharge of £760 and costs of £85, with payments to be made in monthly instalments of £229. His guilty plea was taken into account.
