A Winchester woman has been found guilty of harassing Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones.

Teresa Skelton repeatedly confronted the commissioner at police and public meetings between 2021 and 2024.

The 65-year-old, of Hyde Close, will be sentenced at Southampton Magistrates' Court on July 2.

Her actions were labelled as "vicious, targeted, unacceptable, malicious, abusive, unreasonable, and oppressive" by the judge.

Public meetings became the stage for Skelton's confrontations from 2021 to 2024, leading to a week-long trial.

The judge at Southampton Magistrates' Court noted that Skelton's conduct was clearly wrong and intimidating to any reasonable person.

Reacting to the verdict, Commissioner Jones stated the harassment had a "significant impact" on her professional and personal life.

She said: "I’m grateful to the Judge following the week long trial of Teresa Skelton.

"Whilst the guilty verdict is welcome, this is another example of the levels of abuse and intimidation people in public positions face on a daily basis - both in person and on social media.

"Sadly this abuse has been going on since 2020 and in the end the criminal justice system was the only option to end the abuse.

"Anyone suffering in the same way should reach out and seek help and support."

The commissioner also highlighted the toll taken on her staff and colleagues due to Skelton's "personal vendetta."
