A court hearing for a man accused of causing the death of an Andover resident on New Year’s Day has been adjourned for a second time.

Kyle Barnett, 36, a serving soldier, appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, June 26, for a trial preparation hearing following the death of Juan Manuel Valenzuela.

The case relates to an incident on January 1 in London Street, Andover. It is alleged that Mr Barnett punched Mr Valenzuela, who later died in hospital.

The case has been adjourned to August 7, as barristers are awaiting a post mortem and neuropathology report.

In light of Mr Valenzuela’s death, the charge is under review. Judge Christopher Parker directed the prosecution to provide a neuropathologist's report and an updated indictment by July 31.

Speaking to the court, Judge Parker said: “There is an information void.”

Mr Barnett, of Rydal Way, Clay Cross, in Derbyshire previously appeared in court on February 26, where the pre-trial preparation hearing was adjourned to allow time for the preparation of a pathologist’s report.

He was ordered to continue with the conditions of his bail, which prevent him from applying for any international travel documents.

The prosecutor in this case is Mr Russell Pyne.

The defence barrister is Ms Adriana Knight.

The case is due to resume on August 7 at Winchester Crown Court.
