A stretch of the A342 near Everleigh and Collingbourne Ducis is set to close for urgent repairs later this month, with drivers facing a diversion of more than 45 km and around 43 minutes.
Wiltshire Council has issued a formal notice stating it "hereby gives notice that on July 27, the following length of road shall be closed to all traffic in the interests of public safety to enable Wiltshire Council to carry out urgent Bobcat patching to repair vehicle fire damage and associated works."
The closure will affect the A342 from its junction with Everleigh Road to its junction with the A338.
The authority says the works will commence on Monday, July 27, and are anticipated "to be required for one day between 9am and 4pm."

During that time, all through traffic will be required to follow a signed diversion route, also displayed on one.Network, measuring approximately 45.46 km and expected to add about 43 minutes to journeys.
The diversion will take drivers via the A338, A303, A345 and the unaffected length of the A342 "and vice versa."
Motorists are advised to follow the clearly signed diversion, which routes traffic around the closure using nearby main roads and local links, rather than attempting shorter, unsignposted shortcuts.
Wiltshire Council adds: "The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
"Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works."
Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to plan ahead while the repairs are carried out.
