COUNCILLORS have been assured that all the conditions imposed on planning permission for the development at the former Andover Airfield will be vigorously pursued.

The comment came following a question by Cllr Graham Stallard to the planning and transport portfolio holder Martin Hatley at a meeting of Test Valley Borough Council.

The controversial development by Goodman, which includes a huge megashed, was finally passed at the planning control committee last year after being rejected by the northern area planning committee.

Campaigns for and against the megashed aspect of the development raged and key to the whole application were stringent conditions imposed, particularly relating to transport.

Tesco, which had originally planned to move into the megashed, pulled out of the development because the conditions were too onerous – but Goodman insisted on sticking to them It was against this background that Mr Stallard asked his question.

Mr Hatley said it was clear that between the two committee meetings planning officers had worked hard to enhance the conditions.

“This council gave permission to the head of planning to hire a new enforcement officer and I am confident that the officers will make sure that they are vigorously pursued,” said Mr Hatley.
