A MAN has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison for stealing hundreds of pounds worth of items over five days.

Corey Robin North, care of Bridge Street, pleaded guilty to stealing clothes and handbags worth £536.89 and chocolate bars to the value of £4 from TK Maxx, Next and Tesco over five occasions between 5-9 February.

The 21-year-old appeared in Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 12 February where he was sentenced to eight weeks concurrent in prison and ordered to pay £75 in compensation.

The court said the sentence was due to repeat offending, a history of similar offending, targeting of the same shops and being recalled on probation.

North was not ordered to pay court costs due to lack of means.
