PureGym is offering its free women-only weightlifting workshops to mark International Women's Day.

The national gym chain is running the free workshops across its gyms all day on Tuesday, March 8.

The gym is launching the one-off workshops after it found out that more than 1 in 3 (39%) gym users have considered cancelling their membership due to a lack of confidence. 

One of the common causes of what it calls "gymtimidation" is uncertainty around the free weights section.

“Going to the gym has so many physical and mental health benefits. However, we know that many women feel intimidated by the gym, and in particular by the free weights area," Najoua O'Dell, PureGym Regional Director and Senior Sponsor for PureGym's Women's Employee Network Group commented.

"By running these workshops, we hope to help women across the country alleviate gym anxiety and learn how to use free weights safely. Weightlifting can be really empowering, and we want to remove the barriers that may be preventing women from getting started.”

The classes will be available nationwide at one of PureGym's 300+ gyms.

The workshops vary from gym to gym but they will all last around 30 minutes and will include expert advice on how to safely do deadlifts, weighted squats and more.

Interested members can claim their spot on one of the workshops at their nearest gym via the PureGym app.
