SINGERS from the Overton Choral Society have taken a visit over to Basingstoke’s twin town in Germany.
While they were there, the society took the opportunity to sing with their counterparts in Euskirchen in another choral society, Sangerkreis Euskirchen.
They were welcomed by Uwe Friedl, the mayor of Euskirchen, who gave them a paperweight with the Euskirchen on one side and Basingstoke and Deane’s coat of arms on the other.
A ‘Basingstone from Basingstoke’ was placed in a phone box now used as a library.
They sang in a concert at a mass in St Bruno’s Church in Cologne, where both choirs sang Schubert’s Mass in G, Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and the Hallelujah Chorus.
