Vernham Dean racer Simon Tilling scored his first Castle Combe Sport and GT Championship points of the season on Monday.
He had a strong qualifying session and was only a second off his target for the year which is to lap the 1.85 mile track in a minute or under, so 1:01.000 was the time which secured pole postion. The usually poor start to the 15 lap race saw Simon drop down the field but soon the bright orange Radical SR3T was working its way back towards the front and he took the lead midway through the race only to make a mistake at Bobbies’ bend which dropped him back to second behind Josh Smith’s radical.
However, Simon was soon back in the lead and took the chequred flag 6.4 seconds ahead of Smith, also setting the fastest lap time of 1:01.152.
Also racing was Phil Garrett, competing in the British Super Kart National F125 Championship. Phil qualified sixth on the grid with a time of 1:14.541 and a good race followed where Phil finished eighth in class and tenth overall.
