Andover Town 2 Downton 1.
Salisbury Hospital Cup semi-final.
Andover Town duly took their place in their second cup final of the season on Tuesday when a late goal from substitute Michael Dixon gave them a narrow 2-1 win over Downton in the Salisbury Hospital Cup at the Portway.
In front of another 100 plus crowd Town played some easy on the eye football and went ahead on the half hour when Cameron Hough’s pace took him clear and he finished well.
Brad Benson had a penalty saved just before the break which could have haunted them as Downton equalised from the spot themselves with 20 minutes left.
Lewis Benson had a goal ruled out for offside but with penalties looming Dixon hammered the winner through a forest of legs.
Town will play either Bemerton Heath Harlequins or Shrewton United in the final at Salisbury City FC, possibly on Wednesday May 7.
Manager Neil Benson gave debuts to new signings Vine Chincdu, a former Portsmouth academy striker and Josh Thomas, a 21 year old forward.
He said after the game: “I would like to thank everyone for coming to support us when there were alternatives available on the TV.
“It was never going to be a frontline team as we had a number out injured or working but it is another cup final and will be something to look forward to.”
