AN Andover Athletics Club coach has received a countywide award for her services to sport.
Helen Dobson was awarded the Hampshire Athletic League’s Popplewell Trophy last weekend in recognition of the time and commitment to helping other athletes in the county.
Mrs Dobson, who has been coaching athletes for over 10 years, was presented the annual award at the recent Hampshire Athletic’s League cross-country event, held at Farley Mount, near Winchester (See page 52).
The coach has a wealth of experience due to her own athletics background which consists of numerous junior national 1500m titles as well as representing England in cross country.
She now coaches ages as young as under 13 right through to veteran squad members and unwaveringly attends every race meeting to encourage her athletes.
Talking about Mrs Dobson, Andover Athletics Club’s media officer, Steve Brett, said: “She is truly inspirational and a lovely person to have the privilege of being coached by.
“Helen is always there for her athletes walking the course, offering words of wisdom and giving them encouragement at the finish line.
“She thoroughly deserves this award.”
