PENTON Tennis Club ended their summer season with a closing Mix and Match tournament.
The popular event, which took place on Saturday 26 September, consisted of two teams each with four pairings.
The tournament was played in a round robin format with each team playing 7 games each, then ending the tournament with a short set in the semi-final and then a long set for the final.
Jon Harries and Catherine Carins’ steady, consistent play and determination earned them first place against runners up, Glyn Jones and Pat Counsell whose tactical, tenacious play took the score up to four games.
But Harries and Carins managed to secure the next two games winning the match six games to four.
The tournament brings to an end another successful season for Penton, whose A and B teams were both promoted in the Summer Sarum League this season.
Penton A finished top of Division Three with an impressive 10 wins and one draw.
Meanwhile Penton B finished a close second with eight wins and one draw.
Both teams will now be promoted up to Division Two for next year.
The club is also celebrating the personal achievement of Peter Henderson, from Penton A team, who became the highest-ranked player in Division Two.
