ANDOVER Cricket Club’s excellent under-nines won a five team tournament at Tichborne Park.

The other clubs included the hosts themselves, Hursley Park, Compton and Chandlers Ford, and Sparsholt.

The event was played in a round robin format of eight overs-a-side matches, where eight players bowled one over each and batsmen batted in pairs for two overs each, starting on 200 runs and adding their runs scored whilst deducting five runs for each wicket lost.

Andover won all four of their round robin games and then faced hosts Tichbourne Park in the 10-a-side final of 10 overs-a-side.

In the final, the home side won the toss and invited Andover to bat first. Andover increased their score from 200 to 251 in their allotted 10 overs through sensible batting and excellent running between the wickets.

When their turn came to bowl, Andover bowled straight and fielded superbly to restrict Tichborne to 236, thus winning by 15 runs.

This was a superb end to their season, where the club’s two teams played around 30 matches between them, including those at two tournaments, winning over 20 of them.

The under-11B team also had a successful time, winning the Oliver Plate final convincingly against Hursley Park A, while the under-13ss won their league with an unbeaten run and also reached the final of the Barfoot Cup, run by Winchester Warriors Junior Cricket Association who kindly organise junior cricket for Hampshire Central District.

The club hopes to build on this great success next year and is keen to welcome new players of all ages from year 3 up, but particularly ages 12 to 15.
