A HEPTATHLETE from Hurstbourne Tarrant is set to represent Great Britain at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade following a successfully season.

Holly Mills, 21, will be amongst a select field of the top 12 heptathletes in the world, including reigning World Indoor Champion, Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

This is Holly’s first major global championships. The competitions will be held from March 18 to 20.

The invite follows a successful indoor season for the Andover Athletic Club member as Holly produced a personal best score of 4597pts at the World Indoor Combined Events Tour event in Tallinn, Estonia last month. Holly is currently ranked 3rd in the world for the indoor Pentathlon.

In recent weeks Holly has also competed at her first World Indoor Tour Grand Prix event in Birmingham where she competed in the 60m hurdles against the best hurdlers in Europe, finishing in 6th place.

She also competed in individual events at the British Championships in Birmingham in the 60m hurdles, long jump and shot put, where she won silver in the hurdles and finished in 6th in the other two events.

Holly said: “This has been my goal event this winter. So I was delighted to receive the invitation based on my performances this winter.

“I’m really looking forward to the competition and excited to be up against the top heptathletes in the world. Compared to the other athletes I will be one of the youngest competitors and taking on girls that have been competing in multi-events for much longer than I have. But this is something that I am looking forward to.”

Coverage of the World Indoor Championships will be on the BBC.
