The Wessex League season, as far as Division One is concerned, commences on Saturday, August 6 and New Street will start their quest for promotion, aiming to finish one place higher than last season, with a trip to League new boys Fleetlands.

The Gosport-based side moved up from the Hampshire Premier Division having worked hard to bring their ground to the required standard and this will be something of a trip in to the unknown for the visitors.

The home programme starts a week later when Fawley FC visit Foxcotte Park.

New Street have received a bye in the First Round of the Wessex League Cup and will visit fellow Division One side Fleet Spurs in the second round with the game scheduled for Tuesday, August 30 and a 7.45pm kick off.

The draws for the FA Cup and Vase are due to be published on July 8.

Prior to the season starting, the club have arranged a number of friendly matches starting this Saturday as follows:-

July 2: v Tadley Calleva; kick off 12 noon at Sutton Scotney

July 9: v Sturminster Newton; kick off at 3pm – away

July 12: v Shaftesbury Town; kick off at 7.45pm – away

July 16: v Hamworthy United reserves; kick off at 2pm at Sutton Scotney

July 19: v Bournemouth Poppies; kick off at 2pm at Foxcotte Park

July 23: v Hamble Club; kick off 2pm at Foxcotte Park

July 30: v Infinity; kick off at 3pm at Foxcotte Park

It is early days as yet but a number of last season’s squad have already re-signed for the coming season and there are two welcome additions with the return of both Alex Dockree and Callum Sweeney to Street colours.

Dockree returns after taking a year out of the game whilst Sweeney captained Bemerton Heath to the Division One title last season.
