WITH winter hindrances now behind us, the long-awaited results of the local tennis season have finally been settled.

Fierce competition in both men's and women's divisions culminated in a thrilling finale at the end of April, leaving several matches to be decided by the narrowest of margins.

A particularly close battle was seen in the Men's Division 1, where Kintbury and Old Basing ended level on points.

In a satisfying twist of circumstance, they even drew their head-to-head match.

However, it was Kintbury who clinched the top spot, winning three more sets than their nearest rivals.

Division 2 showcased intense competition, with five out of seven teams finishing within one victory of each other.

It was Riseley B who managed to edge ahead of the chasing pack, finishing just one point higher than Whitchurch.

The Beechdown B team overturned the ranking in Division 3 by stealing away the top spot from Waverley C.

Meanwhile, David Lloyd Newbury triumphed in Division 4, remaining undefeated throughout the season.

For the Ladies Divisions, Preston Candover A sailed to the top of Division 1, thanks to their consistent performance.

Odiham A dominated Division 2 with a perfect winning streak, while in Division 3, Winchester C was declared the champion after Aldermaston had to concede their final match.

Riseley A clinched an extremely narrow victory in the Mixed Division 1 competition, while Division 2 was decided on a head-to-head result, with Odiham coming out on top.

Over in Division 3, Hartley Wintney won the championship despite losing their final match to David Lloyd Newbury.

Congratulations are due to the winners of each division, especially Kintbury, Preston Candover A, and Riseley A for clinching the Division 1 titles in the Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Doubles games.

These victories assure their promotion for the next Winter season.

As we finally put the Winter season to rest, the Summer season is about to commence.

The organising committee hopes that players have enjoyed the recent matches and are looking forward to the Summer tennis season ahead.
