With the summer break over, the second half of this season's Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship got under way at the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire over the weekend around the 2.10-mile track, writes Tim Crisp.

Not only were the BTCC cars back in action, but a selection of the championship's support races also started their second half of the season, with local drivers in action.

In the BTCC, Basingstoke resident Nick Halstead in the Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra had three races around the Croft Circuit, with his best result coming in the last of the three outings where Nick finished 14th overall and 3rd in class.

He is now 8th in the Independents Trophy class on 89 points.

He is now sitting eighth in the Professional Category in his rookie season in the top class.

Harry Hickton from Kimpton was out in the Vertu Mini Challenge in his Mannpower Motorsport JCW Mini.

Two strong drives saw him net two 5th place finishes overall, which gave him two class wins.

This now sees Harry 10th on 244 points in the JCW Driver's Championship table.

The next round for all of our local drivers is in Scotland at the Knockhill Circuit on August 16 and 17.
