Only the top three sides from Andover Cricket Club, sponsored by Hysons Accountants, played Saturday, with the top two sides winning crucial matches.

Andover first XI produced one of their most complete performances of the season on Saturday, defeating Hook & Newnham Basics by 19 runs at London Road thanks to a sensational all-round display from 15-year-old Cameron Mitchinson.

Asked to bat first, Andover found themselves in early trouble at 25-3 before Harri Williams and Mitchinson combined to rebuild the innings.

Williams dug in admirably for 33 from 79 balls, allowing his young teammate to play with increasing authority.

Mitchinson’s superb 95 from 120 deliveries, featuring eight fours and two sixes, was an innings of maturity well beyond his years, expertly mixing patience with controlled aggression as wickets tumbled around him.

Although denied what would have been a richly deserved century, Mitchinson had taken Andover to a competitive 226 all out, receiving useful support late on from Matt Hooper (16) and Babu Veettil (11).

Extras also played their part, contributing 27 runs.

Defending 226 required discipline, and Andover delivered exactly that.

Hook never quite managed to establish control despite useful contributions throughout their order.

Samual Lockwood anchored the chase with 42, while Alex Campbell made 40 and Cameron Hall struck an unbeaten 43, but regular wickets prevented the visitors from building the partnerships needed to overhaul the target.

The standout performer with the ball was Babu Veettil, whose outstanding spell of 4-26 ripped through the heart of Hook’s batting line-up and swung the game firmly in Andover’s favour.

Veettil was unable to finish his allotted 10 overs as he suffered a nasty injury with a ball to the mouth.

Matt Hooper provided excellent support with 3-52, while George Reynolds and John Nyumbu chipped in with a wicket apiece.

With 20 runs needed from three overs and Veettil off the pitch, Andover brought on Elliott Mathias.

Within two balls, Mathias swung the game in Andover's direction with a superb running catch in the boundary to see Hook nine wickets down.

There was still one final contribution from Mitchinson, who returned to dismiss Aniket Divecha and finish with figures of 1-37, rounding off a remarkable all-round performance that underlined why he is regarded as one of the club’s brightest young prospects.

The victory earned Andover a valuable 22 points and demonstrated the blend of youthful talent and collective resilience that will give them confidence heading into the closing weeks of the season.

Andover 2nd XI stretched their remarkable unbeaten run to 11 matches with another statement victory, chasing down a challenging 268 to defeat Penton by four wickets in an entertaining contest.

After electing to bat, Penton posted 267, built around an excellent 68 from Bevon Joseph.

There were useful contributions throughout the innings, but Andover’s bowlers repeatedly struck at important moments to stop the hosts from pulling away.

Ashwin Vasudevan and Richard Taylor each claimed two wickets, while George Green and Nathan Birks also impressed, Birks wrapping up the innings with two late wickets in just two overs.

The disciplined bowling effort ensured Andover were chasing a demanding, but achievable, target.

The reply couldn’t have started much worse as George Green was trapped lbw without scoring, before twins Callum (32) and James Bird (23) steadied the innings.

When further wickets fell, the chase was delicately poised, but Andover’s experienced middle order produced a batting masterclass.

Andy Green led from the front with a superb unbeaten 75, anchoring the innings with typical calmness while keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

At the other end, George Hopton played the perfect supporting hand, smashing an excellent 57 to swing the momentum firmly in Andover’s favour.

The pair’s partnership took the game away from Penton and laid the platform for victory.

Although Hopton eventually departed, there was never any sense of panic.

Jeremy Hayward finished unbeaten on 15 alongside Green, calmly guiding Andover home with more than 14 overs to spare in a chase that showcased both power and composure.

The victory was another significant step in what has become an outstanding season for the 2nd XI.

Eleven matches without defeat is a tremendous achievement, reflecting the side’s consistency, depth and confidence.

Whether defending totals or chasing imposing targets, Andover continue to find different match winners each week, and this latest success extends their lead at the top of the table.

It proved to be a tough afternoon for Andover 3rd XI as a youthful side came up against an experienced St Mary’s outfit, slipping to a nine-wicket defeat despite some encouraging individual performances.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Andover never quite managed to build the substantial partnerships needed on a good batting surface.

Arav Pareek got the innings moving with a fluent 32 before Vinay Malhotra played the standout knock, compiling an excellent 62 to give the visitors something to defend.

Captain Thuva Tharmalingam added 24, while Ty Masterten-Smith remained unbeaten on 10, but wickets fell regularly throughout the innings as St Mary’s shared the bowling honours.

Alex Vile was the pick of the attack with impressive figures of 4-36, helping dismiss Andover for 215.

The target always looked likely to require early breakthroughs, but St Mary’s openers had other ideas.

Russell Hawkins and Tom Lee took the game away from the visitors with a superb opening stand, combining patience with controlled strokeplay to dominate the chase.

Lee fell agonisingly one run short of a deserved century for 99, while Hawkins finished unbeaten on 97 as the hosts reached their target in just 31.2 overs.

Ty Masterten-Smith claimed the only wicket of the innings with a tidy spell of 1-28, but there was little reward for a young Andover attack against two accomplished batsmen.

A day to forget for the 3rd XI as their attention focuses on next weekend’s local derby against East Anton.

Unfortunately, Andover's 4th XI game was cancelled as St Mary Bourne 2nd XI could not raise a side.

They host East Anton 2nd XI this Saturday hoping to continue their winning ways.
