I WOULD like to reply to Mrs Bower from Canada and Derek Weeks from Andover regarding the Daisy Dell.
The Cook family was having a picnic in the Dell that day – we were sat upon the ridge when a German bomber came over followed by an English plane firing at it.
I think the plane was in a real hurry, because it dropped a bomb in the field behind us.
There were six of us children there and I remember my mother spreading her arms out and diving on us kids to protect us.
As I looked over her shoulder I could see a big cloud of dirt and stuff over the Dell from the explosion.
My father was cursing the Jerry, my sister was crying because she didn’t get her fairy cake but we all got home safely.
