I WAS reading in the 12 September paper about the old town station.
Oh yes, I remember it well.
I can close my eyes and see it just as it was and the concrete bridge which I went over many times.
Let’s say, for instance, if you were on your way to the Odeon and the gates were across the road, well, you went over the bridge if you were not in a hurry.
You could stand and watch the big steam train go by.
I remember when we came home from Australia we got the train from Southampton to the station back in 1959.
I tried to get my bearings of where the railway lines used to cross Bridge Street and I just couldn’t.
I know it used to run alongside Junction Road and there’s a big supermarket there and a roundabout, too, I think.
If you go down to the bottom of Rooksbury Road you can see where the railway lines used to run.
Yes, I remember Andover Town Station.
Gone now but not in our memories.
