YOUR article headed ‘What’s in a name?’ in the 5 December issue prompts me to respond.
Along with Mr Sam Twining, I was one of the very first Twining employees to move into the Andover area in July 1966.
Indeed, I stood on the top of the tower shown in your article during construction.
While I am sure that the present-day Twining family will have no concerns regarding the name change, most of your readers will be aware that this internationally iconic name is known for the supply of tea in its various guises and some will be aware that the reference to 1706 relates to the coffee shop in The Strand, where it all began. The holding of many Royal Warrants for the supply of tea and coffee, as well as obtaining the Queen’s Award to Industry (twice) are also part of this iconic heritage.
