I WOULD like to challenge the thread of the editorial (Advertiser, 26.6.15) and supporting commentary from the council leader Ian Carr re: his comfort in the CEO’s wage rise (and package of £148k), because ‘he’s worth it’ and that he may leave and join the private sector, otherwise.
Play is made of the £75m budget and 450 workers.
Central Government income for the year to March, 2015 was £612.6bn and we have in this country 412,000 civil servants. The Prime Minister’s salary is £142k.
The CEO of any council should not be paid more than the Prime Minister, or am I missing something here?
I work in the private sector and no longer have a protected pension pot, unlike those in the public sector to which the CEO et al are enjoying from taxes generated by the private sector.
So offer the post of CEO on a salary package of £100k max, and you will have many talented individuals knocking down the door.
