ISN’T it amazing how a picture can jump off a page and bring back a memory?
I am referring to the picture of Mr Butler and his caravan on page 16 of the Andover Advertiser date June 12. I remember the Butlers very well. There were some girls and of course Billy. I think Billy was a friend of one of my uncles. They lived along what we use to call The Old Road. Gosh, you say there’s a Sainsburys supermarket along there now. Gosh, I can’t imagine that.
Mr Butler use to to tell me and my sister to ask our mum if she’d like to buy a horse so we would run home all excited to say, “Mummy, Mr Butler wants to know if you’d like to buy a horse.”
Mother’s answer was, “You tell Mr Butler, ‘NO’, I don’t want to buy a horse.”
“But Mr Butler says he’s as quiet as a baby.”
Mother never bought a horse. I can remember all that as if it was yesterday.
