FURTHER to my letter in the Advertiser of August 31 headed ‘Plan Problems’.

I was asked to meet with the council leader Councillor North, apparently he wanted me to understand what the council proposed to do with the River Park.

We met at Beech Hurst, Test Valley Council Offices.

Councillor North explained that the road would be closed to the Wilko car park. More grass would be laid to replace the road and seats placed along the river.

When I asked how deliveries would be made to The Town Mill and Wilko, he replied that the lorries would use the new car park entrance off the road alongside the park, new ramps would be put in onto this road. Also, it was a possibility that the Post Office could make an entrance off this car park for their vehicles to entrance the Post Office premises.

When I pointed out that the Town Mill had three car parks for their staff, he replied that it may be possible for the council to give them three places in the existing car park.

So, what do we have? A wonderful car park that is very useful to Andover people wishing to park in this area of the town, always full, [so] we have often had to find places in other car parks.

Now we will have a car park off a busy road, entrance not too difficult, unless lorries are delivering to Wilko or The Town Mill, also Post Office vehicles coming in. I cannot imagine what it would be like to exit the car park on a busy day.

Our last leader Councillor Carr, left us with “wonderful concrete balls”, and an unwanted pedestrianised High Street. What does leader Councillor North hope to leave us with?

Andover is not booming by any means, shops are closing every week. Is the Walworth supermarket and two additional shops going to help the town shopkeepers?
