I'm writing as Chair of the trustee board for 9th Andover Scout Group. As a group we enjoyed reading your piece about Laurence Sinmonds' photo from the 1970s, and we wanted to let Laurence and your readers know that the 9th Andover is still going strong!
We aren't at the wooden Scout hut anymore, we now meet at St Ann's Hall on Suffolk Road. As well as Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, we recently opened a Squirrels group for 4-6 year olds. That means we support and teach life skills and scouting values to almost 100 local young people each week.
Some of our big recent events have been a visit to Brownsea island and a whole group camp at Ferny Crofts.
Your article also gave the group an idea, and we wondered if Laurence, or any other past 9th Andover Scout member would like to come to one of our meetings and talk about how scouting has changed - and what has stayed the same. It could be a great way to bring the group's history to life.
If any ex-9th Andover Scout group members would be interested, please get in touch at dan@9thandoverscouts.org.uk.
