A FORMER Andover town councillor who is said to have 'groomed and sexually abused a child' over a number of years has had his trial delayed for a second time.

Adam Buckenham, 46, went on trial on Monday, March 21, at Winchester Crown Court where he denied 14 charges, including rape and sexual assault of a child. He has pleaded guilty to six other charges.

The trial was previously delayed after it was due to begin in September 2021.

Buckenham, who now lives on the Isle of Wight, is alleged to have incited the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to engage in sexual activity.

In 2019 was elected during a by-election to Andover Town Council for the Downlands Ward as an independent.

However, today (Friday, March 25), the jury was discharged after fears the case would not finish in time.

The case is now listed for a pre-trial review listed on July 22 2022, at Salisbury Crown Court, and the trial relisted to begin on August 1.
