AN 88-year-old man was left in the cold after work done by his housing association resulted in his heating not working.

After a spell in hospital, Charles Walton returned home on Christmas Eve to find that his home in Florence Court had flooded.

He was not able to move back into his property until February 17 after the housing association Aster had carried out work to the flooded and damp property. But on his return, Charles was disappointed to find that his heating was not working.

The doors had also swelled and wouldn't close, and the flooring between the front door and living room had been left unrepaired in a mess.

Charles, who has lived in Florence Court for 24 years, raised these issues but it was not until February 27 that the heating was sorted.

He said: "When I went into hospital I had £140 on my electric meter, yet when I came back on February 17, for the first time since I've been out of hospital, I was £6 into the red. They used all my electric to do the work needed here, but they've left it an absolute mess."

Andover Advertiser:

Charles continued: "I've had to stay in bed almost all day every day, as it's been so cold in the property. I can't close the doors either, I keep tripping on the floor, It's so frustrating.

"For the last month I have been so upset and miserable, and to keep having to contact Aster to fight for the very basics to be done is making me miserable. They have the cheek to pretend they care about their elder residents, but they do not care one bit."

A spokesperson for Aster Housing Association said: "We’re sorry that Mr Walton has experienced some issues over the last few weeks, and we’ve stayed in regular contact with him during this time.

“As soon as we were alerted to the problem with the heating, we carried out an emergency visit on the same day (Monday 27 February) to fix the issue and carried out a full service the following day (28 February).

“We’ll continue to keep in touch and will work with Mr Walton to address any further concerns he has.”
