TEST Valley Borough Council leader Phil North is lacing up his running shoes again and taking on the London Marathon this Sunday, April 21.

He's not just running for the challenge of completing the race, though - he's aiming to raise money for Enham Trust, a local charity that supports disabled people in living independent lives.

Cllr North completed his final long training run last Sunday, and thanked his supporters on social media for helping him reach £1,000 in donations.

"I still need a few more quid to reach my target though. So, if you are able to donate, I’d be grateful - and I’ll make sure I bring it home," he wrote on Facebook.

He's still pushing to reach his target of £1,750, and is encouraging people to donate if they're able.

"We all know that things haven't been easy for Enham recently," Cllr North said on his fundraising page.

"That's why I'm coming out of marathon retirement to raise vital funds for this amazing local cause."

Enham Trust has been supporting people with disabilities for 100 years, and Cllr North said he is 'proud' to represent them.

The charity recently merged with Aster, and Cllr North hopes the funds he raises will help them plan for the future.
