Winchester Chinese restaurant closes

Andover Advertiser: The Golden House this morning The Golden House this morning

A WELL-loved family restaurant in Winchester has closed its doors after 26 years.

The Golden House, on St Cross Road, ceased trading last weekend.

The reason for closing remains unclear, but a sign in the window read: “After 26 years of service, this restaurant will no longer open after February 22.

“We have enjoyed serving you and we apologise for the inconvenience. Thank you for your support and business.”

Yes - whole load of new houses being built between the Golden House and the cinema (where the car showroom used to be). Just what the area needs :-(.

I liked the takeaways from the Golden House, but they have rarely been very busy the last few times I was in there, and I guess that they were too close to the restaurants in Jewry Street, so people eating out would have gone into the centre of Winchester.
