WORK on revamping the area outside the Casson Block in Winchester city centre has been delayed.
The work to widen the terrace area and create more seating for the nearby restaurants on St George’s Street had been due to start on Monday, August 8.
But the city council now says the start will be on Monday, August 15, after contractors received the new paving stones late from the manufacturers.
The work is expected to take around 10 weeks.
It will also include installing a new hand rail for the ramp, repaving and new lighting.
There will also be planters both at the edge of the terraced area along St George’s Street and surrounding the existing pillars, to protect people from traffic pollution.
Local traders such as Tom Romita, at Tom’s Deli, and Miff Kayam at Bengal Sage campaigned for the area to be better used.
