A LIVELY meeting is expected when Alresford people meet to hear development proposals for the town until 2031.
The town council is holding the meeting on May 27 at Perins School, starting at 7pm.
Alresford must find space for 500 new homes between 2011 and 2031.
The council has proposed 320 houses on farmland off Sun Lane with space for light industry relocating from The Dean and a Gypsy pitch.
Their ideas will be fed into the city council’s Local Plan Part 2.
Residents living near Sun Lane oppose the loss of open fields and fear a big increase in traffic. The council argues the land of Sun Lane is the least worst option. The town and city councils say it is the best way of stopping the town becoming an elderly dormitory and preserving local shops, schools and services.
