University of Winchester launches community award
WINCHESTER University has launched a new community award to highlight the contribution of outstanding community organisations or individuals.
The University of Winchester Community Star Award is open to all organisations and individuals who share its commitment to serving the public good and reflect its values.
Prof Joy Carter, university Vice-Chancellor, said: “I’m delighted to launch the University of Winchester Community Star Award. The university is a values-driven institution with a strong commitment to the Hampshire community.
“I hope that the award will promote community engagement in Hampshire and the surrounding area. There are so many organisations and individuals doing commendable work in the community, and these awards are a wonderful way to highlight and reward their tireless commitment.”
Alongside this is the Vice-Chancellor’s Community Engagement Award which recognises and celebrates the work of students and staff from the university who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.
The awards will be presented at Winchester Cathedral in October during the university’s graduation ceremonies. The winner will receive a £300 donation to a charity of their choice.
Nominations can be made in reference to any of the university’s values and must refer to activity that has taken place within the past 12 months.
