CIVIC chiefs have approved plans to build a two-bedroom house in Winchester despite having received a number of objections.

The application was rubberstamped after eight of the nine councillors voted in favour for the project at Sermon Road – a detached two-bed house with an integral garage.

A number of residents raised concerns with the development stating that it would lead to a loss of green space in the community.

Representing a group of Teg Down residents, Louiza Wiltshire said: “The new proposal will destroy all sense of light and open space. This development goes against the greenery of the area and will have a negative impact on the residents. The character is extremely important.

“We urge you to consider the guidelines of this development. It's we, the residents, who pay the long term price. One more small house will not affect the issue of affordable housing. It will however have a detrimental effect on our much loved area.”

Cllr Anne Weir said residents were also concerned that they had not been consulted over the plans.

“We have lost all our green space and infilling here,” she said. “Residents are asking, for that when developments are coming along, they should be involved with these developments. That has not been done.”
