ACCLAIMED linguist David Crystal will give the annual English Language Day lecture in Winchester.
Prof Crystal will speak on 'English Accents, Past, Present and Future' in a lecture in The Stripe at the university.
He will talk on where accents come from, what's happening to them and why people care so much about them.
The free event starts at 7pm on October 13.
English Language Day marks the anniversary of when Parliament in 1362 permitted the use of English in proceedings.
The Winchester-based English Project aims to set up a visitor centre that tells the story of the language.
After the lecture, Prof Crystal’s latest book You Say Potato: A Book about Accents will be available for signing and sale.
