WITH summer on the way families will have the chance to go on cycling rides in Winchester.

Winchester CTC, part of the national cycling charity, and cycling club VC Venta has organised monthly cycle rides between May and September.

The Family Cycle Rides will take place on quiet country lanes and easy off-road paths. The rides will be at an easy pace with stops for play areas, cake and ice-cream.

Each ride starts from a different location within about 10 miles of Winchester.

Andy Key, of Winchester CTC, organiser of the events, said: “Last year we had children in trailers, on trailer bikes or child seats, and older children on their own bikes. Our local cycling clubs will be supporting the group with experienced riders who know how to mend a puncture and help out the families who do not have a lot of cycling experience.”

Extended families are welcome but all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The next ride is on Saturday May 16 and will start from the YMCA Café in The Broadway from 2pm-5pm.
