WORKMEN unearthed a World War II hand grenade while digging in Tidworth this morning.
The mark 42 hand grenade was located in Sidbury Circular Road between the Wavell Road junctions. The hand grenade was unearthed by Veolia Water Services staff working in the area. Police said the area was cordoned off by military personnel and Tidworth police. Occupants of nearby premises vacated to Tidworth Leisure Centre. The grenade was removed by a bomb disposal team to a safe area of Salisbury Plain, where the grenade was destroyed by a controlled explosion.
