Lead thieves at work in Highlands Road
9:37am Wednesday 19th December 2012 in News
POLICE are appealing for public help after lead thieves were discovered at work at a house in Andover’s Highlands Road.
The incident took place just after 9.30pm on Saturday (15). The victim disturbed two offenders in the alley at the side of his house who were in the process of trying to steal lead strips from the roof. They then fled the scene.
Once they had gone the victim discovered several feet of lead strip had been taken. The offenders are described as two white males, one wearing a red coat and one wearing a dark top.
PC Paddy Coveney, said: “I would like to hear from anyone with information that could help identify the offenders or lead to the recovery of the lead. “Enquiries so far indicate that the two offenders may have been in the area from as early as 6pm that evening. “Whilst the area was not particularly busy, we know that a number of people walk dogs and run nearby and it is possible they may have seen something. “I would urge anyone with any information or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area during the evening of 15 December to come forward and speak to us.”
Anyone with any information should contact police at PC Coveney at Andover police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

One moment you accuse them all of being corrupt and in your next breath you want more of them pounding the beat catching lead thieves.
Time to make up your mind as to exact what it is you want.
Due to this Governments cuts to the police force budgets, they have limited resources/money and they can only do a certain amount. Hampshire is one of the country's largest county's for the limited number of police to cover.
If you want to lay blame, direct your anger at the Conservative/LibDem Government for they are the ones who are heavily cutting the police force, which obviously means less police officers in the Andover area.
The police officers I have met are honest and work hard for their money. I just wish there were more of them.

1) The "vast" majority of the police force are not corrupt as you imply. That is pure sensationalism by you.
2) The incidents you have highlighted and which have hit the media headlines over the past 23 years - such as Hillsborough (in 1989), G20 (in 2000) and "Pleb" (this year) are three incidents from hundreds upon thousands that are dealt with EVERY YEAR by the police force.
3) Crime stats for Andover can't be blamed on the Police. They are not the ones committing the crimes. It's the people of Andover who are committing these crimes to create the high level of crime statistics we see today.
4) Malignant Attitude across all the ranks? All? Again, this is just sensationalism by yourself.
5) If you want more Police presence in Andover to reduce crime, do not think for one minute it can be done with the reduced and current level of officers. If you think it can be, you are living in cloud cuckoo land.
6) More police presence means more money for the police budgets. You won't get this under the Tories/LibDems.
You have a major chip on your shoulder with regards to the Police. Get over it. You whinging all the time and criticising the police on here isn't going to change a **** thing neither now or in the future.
