THE body of 61-year-old Brian Allen was recovered from the River Anton in the centre of Andover on Sunday.

Police, fire and ambulance staff attended the scene at the river by the bus station and multi-storey car park just before 1pm on Sunday when the body was found.

A search had been under way for a missing person since approximately 7pm on Saturday.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “We can confirm police were called to the discovery of a man’s body in the River Anton, near the Waterloo Court area of Andover, Hampshire.

“The body has been recovered from the river and formally identified.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

An inquest was opened and adjourned earlier this week.
