SUMMER fairs and festivals have been bringing smiles to the faces of the area’s residents and raising money for charity and a village hall fund.

At the weekend Wherwell Church Fete offered its attendees a Pimms tent and a lunchtime hot dog barbecue.

Stalls included a tombola, air rifles, games, face painting, plants, cakes, produce, books, gifts and there was also a bouncy castle.

Andover Town Band provided the music.

The Boaz Project held an open day, plant sale and fete at Hill Farm, south of Wherwell.

Boaz is a horticultural based charity for adults with learning disabilities.

The day’s attractions included groom the donkey, model flying and meeting lambs.

Shipton Bellinger’s fete included a whole host of stalls, a model helicopter display and animal attractions, including camels and alpacas, as well as a return from Trigger the Train.

Fete committee member Louise Lever said: “It was lovely weather and we had a good crowd “After the night before I think that we all thought it was going to be saturated.

“This year the theme was family friends and fun.

“It was good old fashioned fun.

The King’s Somborne Beer and Music Festival enjoyed three flypasts by a Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF Air Events Team, en route to their next destination after appearing at Trooping the Colour in London earlier in the day.

The local pub, The Crown Inn, organised the bar, which had around a dozen local real ales on offer.

Festival-goers were treated to live music from a number of performers, a display of early Saxon history as well as a collection of animals ranging from a boa constrictor to an albino pygmy hedgehog.

Other stalls were run by several village organisations.

The evening saw events move inside the village hall to hear three local bands.

The event was held as one of a series of ongoing fund raising events to renovate the village hall and raised around £1,000.
