VOLUNTEERS have revived a service to bring snacks and newspapers to patients in Andover.
The Friends of Andover trolley service – which once brought snacks, newspapers and other items to patients in Andover War Memorial Hospital and The Countess of Brecknock Hospice – has returned, thanks to a new team of eight who have volunteered to revive the service.
The ladies will visit Kingfisher rehabilitation ward, the physiotherapy department and the hospice.
As well as providing patients with snacks, newspapers and sundries, volunteers will also talk to and get to know the patients, some of whom do not have many visitors and welcome the opportunity for a chat.
Plans are also under way to introduce a talking newspaper to Kingfisher so that patients who have impaired vision can catch up with the local news.
The hospital is now looking for volunteers who can play the piano or provide other activities to entertain the patients on Kingfisher rehabilitation ward.
