SICK Andover children will be met with a more inviting entrance when they attend Andover War Memorial Hospital thanks to an art initiative involving The Lights.
The new waiting room at the Andover Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service has been funded from The Lights outreach programme and Hampshire County Council.
Anne Clare Whiteside, the primary mental health worker at the centre, worked with arts consultant Marilyn Michalowicz, who approached The Lights to run a project that would involve the young people using the service in the development of designs to make the waiting room a more inviting place.
Artist Michelle Clayton and Marilyn asked the young people what they would like the waiting room to look like. From this consultation Michelle developed three designs which were voted on by staff and service users at the centre.
The ‘Calm’ scheme was voted favourite. The waiting room was opened on Tuesday by Cllr Pat West.
