A WHITCHURCH man has slammed potential plans to remove all parking along Winchester Road.

Michael Humphrey was outraged to find a letter through his door claiming that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council may remove all parking along the busy residential street if a planning application for 100 new homes in Winchester Road gets approval.

The plans relate to an application, previously reported in the Andover Advertiser, regarding a green field site between Winchester Road and Micheldever Road.

The 59-year-old claims the move, which is only being ‘considered’ by Basingstoke and Deane, will adversely affect over 120 homes and business situated on the road.

He said: “I think it’s nonsense.

“It will be devastating for businesses in the town because people park along here to walk to the shops.

“But there are also quite a lot of elderly residents who live on this road and there is nowhere to park otherwise.”

Basingstoke and Deane’s Planning and development manager, Mike Townsend, said: “The planning application submitted asks the council, as the planning authority, to consider the principle of building 100 homes with new access onto Winchester Road.

“Through the application process, consultation will take place with the local community and specialist consultees and all responses will be reviewed and taken into account when determining the application.

“Many factors will be considered including the proposed parking and impact on the operation of the highway.”
